Marie Ella Rubens
founded Rubens Insurance in 1968
Ella burst into the world on August 30, 1922, in Vegerville, Alberta, Canada. She graduated from Potlatch High School in 1940, then promptly decided to tie the knot with Clark A. Rubens from Farmington, WA, on November 20 of that same year. They packed their bags for Bremerton, WA, in 1942, and later settled in Chico. In 1951, she joined the Silverdale Grange and started writing Grange Insurance from her kitchen table — talk about multitasking! In 1968, she opened the Rubens Insurance Agency in Silverdale, making history as the first female insurance agent in town. She opened her doors in the shopping center, now housing Harbor Freight. In 1986 she transformed a building once owned by a veterinarian into a thriving hub for her agency. In the front she hung her shingle and her son-in-law Bob's barber shop was in the back, which is still buzzing today! With the support of her daughter, Lavonna, Ella's entrepreneurial spirit shone brightly during the transition between locations.

In 1995, Ella was crowned one of Kitsap County's Distinguished Women of the Year, thanks to an employee who must have really liked her. As a Silverdale Granger, Ella was always in the mix, serving as Treasurer for 35 years and wearing the Master hat for 10 years. She also helped kickstart the "840," which became famous for paying off the Grange's construction debt faster than you can say “financial planning!”
David Lloyd Rubens
took over in 1992
As Ella decided it was time to kick back and enjoy her golden years, whipping things up in the kitchen, particularly her famous cakes, she reached out to her son Dave about the business. Dave jumped into the driver's seat as the new owner. He rolled up his sleeves and got to work, all while making sure the doors stayed open and the coffee pot was always full. Thanks to his efforts, along with his trusty sidekick and office manager Cheryl Sharp, the residents of Kitsap could count on their insurance services.

Monica Bayness
took over in 2013
Dave finally decided it was time for a well-earned break (read: a vacation from spreadsheets), he handed the reins to Monica Bayness who had gained a solid background in Insurance while at Olympic NW Advisors. Over her eleven-year reign at Rubens, she didn’t just keep the business afloat; she grew it like a well-watered houseplant to make sure the community didn’t go without their insurance safety nets!
Ron Gilbert
took over October, 2024
Originally from Brooklyn, NY, Ron spent 24 years wandering South Florida—probably searching for the best beach umbrella! Luckily, his wife swooped in to the rescue, moving him up to Washington. In 2014, he earned his insurance license. He gained experience working at Independent and well known nationally branded Insurance agencies until he landed the coveted title of Operations Manager. Just when he thought he’d settle down, he connected with Monica, who wanted to prioritize her husband and grandkids—talk about a plot twist! With over a decade of insurance experience, Ron's on a mission to jazz up the business while keeping its quirky charm and giving clients the royal treatment they deserve. In addition to his passion for making sure people fully understand their Insurance he is a classically trained French Horn Player. You can catch him perform at several local and regional orchestras.
